Something all Chinese girls know is that water is the skin’s most important ally. Beautiful skin is rich in water and this is why keeping your skin out of the sun is vital. Sunlight dehydrates skin and repeated exposure can gradually cause your skin to dry up and age prematurely. Especially after the age of 25, the skin is particularly prone to losing its moisture.
The reasons for this loss include spending too much time in air-conditioned rooms, air pollution, temperature changes (such as during seasonal changes) and sunlight.
The effect of these factors include premature wrinkled and skin thickening, traits often found among women who do not take care of the environment they put their skin in.
So what can you do to prevent the premature aging of the skin?
1 – take showers in moderately warm water. This opens your pores and allows impurities to exit.
2 – wash your face with a face wash that works well with your skin
3 – exfoliate your skin once per week (and only once per month if you are prone to dry skin). Your exfoliator should not be ‘grainy’ in texture, but more smooth and gentle. Put cold water on your face after this to help close your pores now that they are clean.
4 – use a high quality facial moisturizing mask everyday for 15 minutes. Then wash off the residue (do not let this residue stay on your face).
5 – use a gentle toner. Most toners at the drug store are much too strong. I prefer Aupres’s Time-Lock Energizer Lotion II.
6 – apply a healthy and high quality facial cream.
7 – apply a healthy UV cream if you are going to be outdoors or working behind a computer (don’t underestimate the damaging effects of a computer screen!) The SPF of this cream should not be very high for indoor use, but can be higher for outside.
For your body (this is a basic regimen, we will cover an elaborate body skin regimen in a later post):
1 – in the shower, exfoliate your skin twice a week, in addition to washing with a gentle body wash
2 – dab dry your body and apply a gentle skin cream allover
